Compare three access models, their operating demands and the risk of counting the same wellness revenue twice.

Translate social bathing, private wellness and thermal circuits into a practical brief for your hotel, resort or villa development.

For an Indonesian hotel or villa development, a wellness trend matters when it changes a guest decision, a space requirement or an operating responsibility. The useful question is which experience your audience needs and how the property can deliver it consistently. Global interest alone does not establish demand at a particular site.
GWI’s 2025 monitor reports a US$6.8 trillion global wellness economy for the 2024 data year, spanning eleven sectors. It is not an estimate of Indonesian hotel consulting revenue. As checked on 19 October 2026, GWI describes its 2026 economy monitor as forthcoming. Keep the report year and data year separate.
The January 2026 Global Wellness Summit outlook discusses growing interest in human connection and a response to excessive self-optimization. GWI’s Hydrothermal Initiative highlights thermal circuits and wellness as a hospitality attraction. The following decision framework is our interpretation for owners, rather than a forecast of your property’s results.
| Market signal | Decision to test | Evidence to obtain |
|---|---|---|
| Social wellness | Can group experiences coexist with quiet guests? | Small-group demand, staffing and acoustic review |
| Private experiences | Bookable suite or shared facility? | Guest interest, reset time and competing use of floor area |
| Thermal circuits | How do heat, shower, cooling and rest connect? | Guest route, service access and equipment instructions |
Define one primary audience: staying resort guests, villa residents or repeat local users. Write their reason for visiting, expected visit length and supervision needs. A single small facility may not serve all three groups at peak times. The front desk, changing space and quiet areas can become constraints before the sauna reaches its theoretical capacity.
Compare upgrading an existing offer, adding a limited wellness zone and developing a larger facility. For each option record capital work, usable capacity, staffing and unresolved assumptions. This makes decisions comparable without assuming that more equipment creates a stronger business.
A preliminary survey published through GWI initiatives on 23 September 2026 draws on 43 operators and industry participants. Its small, predominantly North American sample is directional. It can prompt useful questions about development and operating models; it cannot establish a revenue forecast for a Bali villa.
Ask which income comes from access, memberships and additional services, what back-of-house area the model requires, and who manages busy periods. Overseas construction budgets should not be transplanted into a local project without matching scope, capacity and building conditions.
A GWI update published on 7 October, using responses through 6 October 2026, expands the sample to 47 participants and again describes the findings as preliminary and non-representative. Check the date and methodology before using an industry snapshot in an investment decision.
Bring a floor plan, audience definition, existing facilities and proposed access model. Attach each selected trend to a specific guest improvement and an operating consequence. If that consequence is unclear, resolve the brief before ordering.
